Dynamics GP SSRS Report Deployment Errors

When deploying the Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services reports for Microsoft Dynamics GP you may run into the following error message:

“The SQL Server Reporting Services setup information is not valid”

Alternatively, you might see the following error:

“You do not have security access to deploy reports to the location entered”

You could also be prompted for credentials at the time of the deployment.

There are a few common causes for these issues:

1)      First, your user may truly lack the necessary rights to deploy new objects to the SSRS instance.  Verify that your user has been added to at least the Content Manager role.

a.       This is found under the Folder Settings tab on the Report Manager site in Native Mode instances of SQL 2008 R2 and SQL 2012 and under the Properties tab in SQL 2005 and SQL 2008

b.      In a SharePoint deployment this permission is based on your SharePoint rights to the document library will be deployed.  Ensure that these are sufficient for your organization.

2)      Next, this may be due to the User Account Control (UAC) settings on your machine.  To rule this out launch Dynamics GP by right-clicking on the GP shortcut and select Run as Administrator.  You can then navigate to the Reporting Tools Setup window and run the report deployment.

3)      This may also be an issue with the configuration of the Content Manager role within SSRS.  You can verify this as follows:

a.       Open SQL Server Management Studio on your SQL Server by clicking on Start, pointing to All Programs, then Microsoft SQL Server and then clicking on SQL Server Management Studio

b.      Connect to your SQL Server Reporting Services instance

c.       In the Object Explorer section of this application expand your instance name, then Security, then Roles

d.      Right-click on Content Manager and select Properties

e.      Verify that every option has been selected, particularly Manage Models

f.        Save the change, verify that your deploying user has been granted access to the Content Manager SSRS role and try the report deployment again Verify that all of the tasks are marked and they are all needed for the deployment.

4)      Finally, the deployment from within Dynamics GP relies on several Business Intelligence DLL files in the AddIns folder in your Dynamics GP installation folder.  If any of these files are missing the deployment will fail.  A screenshot of the contents of this folder follows:

The only time I’ve seen the contents of this folder affected was due to an integrating application that removed DLLs here in to order to implement their own functionality.

Enjoy!
